A Profound Choice

Christmas is about a baby in a manger, in a stable, in a little town.

Christmas is about Almighty God, Creator of the Universe, Perfect, Sovereign, Holy, Emmanuel…in a manger, in a stable, in a little town.

The first sentence is not impressive, the second sentence is profound and to some, puzzling. But this is the greatest example of God’s character. God IS holy and God IS love! His love is more profound because He is holy. His love is more profound because of who He IS! The Great I AM…loves…you!

He was not just another baby. Who He IS, is what makes the Truth so profound. If He was just another one of us, it wouldn’t be profound at all. Sure, we have heroes who have given their lives for others and that is special. But all of those sacrifices added together don’t pay the price for the sins of the world.

The all-powerful El Shaddai loves us!

Jesus, the one who spoke the world into existence, chose to become a baby born in a stable, sleeping in a manger, in a little town, in order to save us. He chose to feel pain, hunger, temptation, frustration, etc. instead of staying put with the Father. The perfect Holy One chose to humble Himself to come live among and intermingle with the unholy mess of humanity. He did this despite the fact that not all would believe, and even those of us who do would still struggle to fully understand His love and holiness and be limited in our ability to appreciate His sacrifice. He basically came behind enemy lines to rescue us before we even wanted to be rescued.

Romans 5:6-8 “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

What makes Christmas so profound is who He IS, what makes His love so profound is who He IS. What makes His choice so profound is who He IS. God IS holy and God IS love! We are loved by a Holy God more than we can understand. To even begin to grasp this profound choice, we have to remember that He is HOLY and that is what makes His choice to love us so profound!
