We humans have a problem; we are so egocentric (focused on ourselves) that we think if we don’t see it, hear it, or perceive it, it didn’t happen.
Yet we know that our own senses are limited. For example, we can only see the visible light portion of the electromagnetic wave spectrum, yet we know that infrared and ultraviolet light exists (just to name a few.) In the same way, we can only hear between 20Hz and 20,000 Hz, yet we know that dogs can hear dog whistles in higher ranges because they can hear upwards of 40,000Hz.
We have learned that the electron shell of a carbon atom produces the same harmonic scale as a Gregorian chant and with the use of radio-telescopes we have discovered that the stars DO sing to God.
Our human ear can’t pick up either one of these “songs” but they DO happen -and the Word of God already told us that.
Ps 148 “Praise the LORD. Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars. Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies.”
How do we pay attention to the unseen? First, we must acknowledge that it is there and it will change our perspective, then ask the Holy Spirit to show us what we need to know. Our frame of reference is too small, -way to small!
We need to remember that it truly is not what we see with our physical eyes or hear with our physical ears that is truth! What HE sees and what HE hears is Truth.
We need His perception, we need to see through His eyes, hear with His ears, understand with His understanding! He gave us the Holy Spirit so that all of this is possible for us. When we do that…oh how it changes our perspective of everything!
People say, “We have to be REAL; we live in the real world.” Or “Well we can’t just live in the spiritual realm all of the time, it’s not practical, etc.”
The thing is, we DO live in the spiritual realm all of the time, we just fool ourselves in to thinking they are separate, and we ignore the rest. Everything is so interconnected, and we don’t pay attention to anything we don’t want to, but we still affect it, and it affects us. We actually don’t live like we are in the REAL world because we are not paying attention to what is around us, what is real. We only look at what we see with our physical eyes and we ignore the rest of our world. What is unseen and unheard is very real (atoms, quarks, dog whistles, stars, angels, demons, etc.) The Word tells us what is seen is temporary and what is unseen is eternal. So, when we walk around living based on what we see, we are actually basing our lives on half-truth, or illusions. What’s REAL, we are ignoring.
2 Corinthians 4:18 “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
Jesus, today please keep me mindful of the things unseen and unheard in my life. Help me to remember that so much of this world exists beyond my ability to sense it in my natural body. Help me to remember that the real enemy of my soul is unseen by my eyes and that even when I don’t see it you are working on victory in my life. You are so amazing and what you have done with me is beyond understanding!
