July 3rd

You wouldn’t leave home without your phone would you? You would feel lost or disconnected or at the very least not quite right. Even if your phone is for “just in case,” you still take it with you for emergencies. We use our phones to get information, stay connected, get directions or the weather forecast and sometimes even for entertainment (listening to music, etc.) We take them with us pretty much everywhere we go, to the point that we have become dependent on them, feeling crippled if we don’t have them when we want them. You might already know where I am going with this…

Why is it that we can be that devoted to a plastic, metal and silicone box and not the Living God?

We should be consciously taking Jesus with us everywhere we go (or better yet just go everywhere with Him -so we are the tagalong, instead of Him) and we should be consulting Him for information, getting directions and staying connected to Him. Jesus said He is with us always, but are WE with HIM? Are we conscious of Him or do we mentally leave Him at home on the nightstand etc. when we leave for the day?

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

He is THE way, THE truth, and THE life. Not A way but THE way. Shouldn’t we be consulting THE Truth instead of what comes up on our phone or social media? If we feel more lost when we forget our phone than we do when we forget our Jesus, we really are lost.

We can’t be Christ followers if we are mentally leaving Him at home can we? We can’t have our eyes on Him if we “leave Him at home.”

One more thing…we have no problem annoying people with our phones, but we try our darndest not to annoy people with our Jesus. Why is that?

Colossians 3:1-2 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Jesus, thank you for being with me always. Help me to remember you are with me and help me to make it a priority to NOT “forget you at home.” Forgive me for neglecting you and for not realizing how much I need you every moment of the day. Help me develop a conscious dependence on you. Thank you for everything Jesus, especially the way you love me.
