What is the goal of the Christian life?
The goal is making disciples. If that is not your priority or even on your radar, it is time to do a self check. What is your life based on; what does it revolve around?
Jesus made disciples and asked His disciples (us) to make disciples.
Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
One thing about being a disciple…Your eyes have to be on the one you are following.
Jesus said, “Follow me” and to do that we have to have our eyes on Him. We can’t emulate Him if we are not keeping our eyes on Him. If we are too busy watching others or focused on the world around us, we can’t possibly follow Him. We will miss out on what He is doing and where He is leading. And He isn’t calling us to find our own way or make our own decisions about what is the best approach; He gave us specific instructions, showed us how, and sent us the Holy Spirit to teach us and lead us in the right way. He asked us to follow Him; to do that we have to keep our eyes on Him.
This great commission He gave us isn’t just an assignment. Look at the end of that verse above. He promises to be with us always -to the very end! This isn’t an assignment, it is a relationship!
So let’s use our eyes and to fix our gaze on Him and follow Him in this journey of making disciples. If that is not happening in your life right now ask Him to show you what needs to happen to bring your priorities in line with His.
Hebrews 12:1-3 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Jesus, thank you for not just giving me this assignment and leaving it up to me to figure it out on my own. Thank you for never leaving me and for being willing to lead me every moment of every day. Help me to keep my eyes on you and follow you all of the time. Thank you for your perfect love and perfect plan.
