Resources have been on the radar in our house the last few months, specifically sight. Since Bill’s eye surgery it has been a constant reminder that we take so many of our resources for granted. Sight affects depth perception which affects your ability to do more of what you do every day than you realize. This has affected our whole house, the farm, everything in our lives, because of not only the sight limitations and pain but also because of the movement and lifting restrictions. As a result, we are now much more aware of resources that we have and shouldn’t take for granted. Let’s apply that to everything else in life.
If you had all the resources you need to succeed at something, why would you ignore them and try to do it without the resources? But that is what we do, all of us, often! I would say likely every day for most of us.
Jesus gives us all we need, limitless resources to accomplish everything we need to do in life. He gives us not only salvation, but He gives us the Holy Spirit to help us in every way that we need. He gave us His Word. He gave us prayer. He gives us a church family. He gives us authority. He gives us access to wisdom. He gave us knowledge of the spiritual realm so that we can have His perspective. He gives us the gifts/talents/ and abilities that we need to carry out His will. He gives us the fruit of the Spirit, and the list goes on and on. Peter said He gives us everything we need for life and godliness.
2 Peter 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
He gives us all these things and still we choose to walk in this world as if we are of this world. We make decisions without asking Him what to do, we take things at face value instead of seeing the unseen truth, we respond or react to things without considering the reality in the spiritual realm. The truth is that we don’t use most of our resources on any given day. We have the Holy Spirit, who knows everything, including what is to come, and we don’t bother to involve Him?!
That is like getting up in the morning and refusing to open our healthy eyes and then feeling our way around all day with a blind person’s cane instead of just opening our eyes. That sounds absolutely silly but that is what we are doing when we just go through life making decisions and walking through our day without consulting the Holy Spirit. He is the best resource ever and we ignore Him much of the time.
John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
Isn’t it about time we trained our brains to think of Him first and use all of the resources that God has given us to do what He has called us to do?
Jesus, thank you for giving me everything that I need to be who you created me to be and do what you purposed me to do. Help me to remember that I have every resource I need. Help me to tap into those resources and use them and show me how to use the tools that you have already laid in front of me. Help me not to walk around blind when I have the ability to see. Thank you so much for your patience with me. Help me to do better today.
