Day 16

Talk about timing! There is so much debate about WHEN everything is going to happen.

Revelation 22:12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.”

Many times we read in the scripture that it will happen “soon.” It causes us to wonder what exactly that word means. Peter reminds us that God doesn’t operate on our timeline.

2 Peter 3:8-9 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Does that mean that we are looking at thousands of years or just days? The point of the verse is not to give us something to calculate a date by, but to remap our thinking so that we quit worrying about the timing.

Think about it this way…our Heavenly Father sees all of time all at once. If you drew a line from one side of your room to the other and that represented eternity; then if you put a tiny dot with your pencil somewhere on the line in the middle of the room, that dot would represent the amount of time between creation and the Rapture. You can’t even tell the difference between the start, middle or end of that dot. It is too small compared to the line. Even though that dot represents somewhere between 6,000 to 10,000 years so far, compared to the line it is a flash. So in our humans minds we get hung up on actual days or dates or times and God shakes His head and says, “If you only knew!”

I think the message here is that we need to stop trying to measure God’s plan with our measuring stick! If God wanted us to know the day and the hour, He would have told us. Instead, He gave us warnings to be ready and told us the signs to watch for that are more reminders to be ready.

Mark 13:32-33 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.”

Matthew 24:42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”

We don’t need to worry about timing, we just need to be ready.

Jesus, help me to just trust you with the timing of what is ahead. Help me to focus on being ready for you. Help me stay tuned in to you so that I can take advantage of every opportunity that you put in front of me to share your love with others. Thank you for your perfect plan, help me to trust you.
