The Book of Revelation Devotions Day 17
DAY 17
Are you desperate enough? Often we don’t spend time with Jesus because we are not desperate enough. We don’t hesitate to go to Him when we “need” Him for one reason or another. But are we desperate for His presence when things all seem to be going fine?
Psalm 63:1 You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
Psalm 63:6-8 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.
Are we desperate enough? Not desperate for His rescue or for Him to bail us out of trouble. But are we desperate for His PRESENCE? Do we thirst for Him? Do we cling to Him?
Do our heart and flesh cry out for Him?
Psalm 84:2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
Are we desperate for Him, not for what He can do for us?
This is something to consider as we consider Revelation. Are you ready for Him to return for you?
If you are not excited for Him to come today, then perhaps you are still too enamored with the world.
If you are more than ready and excited for Him to come today, then I would ask you why?
Is it because you are sick of the troubles of this broken world? Is it because you are ready to leave the pain and suffering behind? Is it because you don’t have anything here to keep you anxious to stay?
Or are you ready to go now because you are desperate for His presence?!
There is nothing wrong with being sick of this world, and actually if we are not tired of the evil here then we probably are not spending enough time with Jesus, because He IS sick of the evil here. But…we know our hearts are truly ready for heaven when the reason we just want to hurry up and go is to be in the presence of our perfect, holy King.
If we can’t identify with those verses above, then we probably aren’t ready.
Jesus, forgive me for making it about me. Help me to be ready for the right reason. Show me how. Help me to experience your presence here so that I will be desperate for you. Show me anything that is hindering your presence in my life. Help me to make room for you.
